is a fully recognised and autonomous university according to Nicaraguan higher education law with autonomous degree awarding powers at all academic levels of carreras (professional graduate programmes) and postgraduate programmes (Specialist, Master, Doctor).

Universidad Central de Nicaragua UCN takes part in the national quality assurance programme with CNEA the national Council of Evaluation and Quality Assurance.

Universidad Central de Nicaragua UCN (Central University of Nicaragua) is an approved member of the International Association of Universities IAU. Member Institutions are universities or degree-conferring higher education institutions whose main objective is teaching and research.

Universidad Central de Nicaragua UCN has been accepted as Member of the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) International Quality Group (CIQG)

In addition to the constitutionally protected status as recognised autonomous university in Nicaragua the Universidad Central de Nicaragua UCN was accredited by ASIC with Premier Provider status for the period 2013-2017 in order to demonstrate the commitment to quality and continuous improvement, whereby, accreditation is holistic- encompassing institutions in their entirety rather than particular courses, programmes or qualifications.

In 2017 UCN decided not to apply for re-accreditation by ASIC.

It is now mandatory in Nicaragua for universities to participate in the CNEA quality assurance audits and institutional accreditation scheme and the new strategic focus of UCN is to comply with national standards and abroad in the countries of university extensions, like in Austria.

Hence, UCN will pursue CNEA accreditation and comply with legal requirements.

The new strategic focus is on quality assurance.

Universidad Central de Nicaragua UCN European Programmes branch campus in Innsbruck, Austria, is ISO 29990 certified by AFQ Akademie Futurum Qualitas.
