Universidad Azteca de Chalco was affiliated to Centro de Estudios Superiores Azteca and changed the name to Universidad Azteca in 2009. The private university was established in 1994 and is recognized by the federal Secretary of Public Education (SEP) of the United States of Mexico.
The university is officially recognized in Mexico with Reconocimiento de Validez Oficial de Estudios (RVOE) by the Secretary of Public Education (SEP) in the following study areas:
- International Commerce
- Business Administration
- Information Systems and Data Processing (IT)
- Law
- Financial Law
- Penal Law
- Psychology (including NLP, Coaching)
- Pedagogics
- (Public) Accounting (including Financial Management)
- Educational Science
Additionally, the university is entitled by Mexican education laws to offer own degree-programmes, according to article 59 of the Ley General de Educacion.

The University is listed with the official Mexican government cultural and scientific information exchange network as a recognized and accredited university.
Universidad Azteca de Chalco is also listed with the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), International Association of Universities under the list of universities of Mexico and the International Handbook of official directory Universities of accredited universities published by the United Nations IAU.

Die Universidad Azteca ist eine staatlich anerkannte Privatuniversität in Mexiko.
Seit ihrer Gründung im Jahre 1994 haben rd. 17.000 Absolventen ihr Studium an der Universidad Azteca abgeschlossen, dzt. sind in on-campus Studien an den sechs Standorten in Mexico rd. 2,000 Studierende eingeschrieben.
Offizielle Verlautbarung des Registers der Bildungs-Institutionen, 9. April 1999, Nr. 15-00084: eingetragen im ersten Abschnitt des Buches 71-VIII der Bildungs-Institutionen, auf Seite 129, als eine Private Bildungseinrichtung mit Anerkennung der Offiziellen Validität von Studien, ausgestellt von der Generaldirektion für Höhere Bildung des Staatssekretariats für Höhere Bildung und Wissenschaftliche Forschung des Ministeriums für Öffentliche Bildung SEP.
Bescheid des Registers der Bildungs-Institutionen, 9. April 1999, Nr. 15-00084: dass die Bildungs-Institution autorisiert ist, Studien des Typs “Tertiär” durchzuführen; dass die Bildungseinrichtung Titel und akademische Grade in Übereinstimmung mit jenen verleihen kann, die gemäß Art. 60 des Allgemeinen Gesetzes über die Bildung und 18 des Gesetzes über die Koordination der Höheren Bildung vorgesehen sind.
Der Begriff „Universidad“ ist in Mexiko gesetzlich geschützt und jenen postsekundären Bildungseinrichtungen vorbehalten, die mindestens fünf offiziell anerkannte Licenciado Diplomstudien oder postgraduale Studien anbieten und das in mindestens drei Fachbereichen, von denen einer Geisteswissenschaften sein muss:
Die Universidad Azteca ist als anerkannte Universität u.a. auf der offiziellen Website der mexikanischen Regierung, sowie auf der International Association of Universities (IAU) der World Higher Education Database der UNESCO unter dem Namen „Universidad Azteca de Chalco“ gelistet und damit international anerkannt.
Die Universidad Azteca ist berechtigt, eigene akademische Grade gemäß Art. 59 des Ley General de Educacion zu verleihen.
Die Universidad Azteca nimmt an zahlreichen staatlichen Forschungs- bzw. Bildungsinitiativen und Projekten teil, z.B. zur Bekämpfung der Produkt und Geistiges Eigentum Piraterie, oder der Kinderverträglichkeit von Fernsehprogrammen, oder der Nutzung des Internets zu Bildungszwecken, etc.
Anerkennung der Universidad Azteca
Die Universidad Azteca de Chalco (Centro de Estudios Superiores Azteca) ist vom Bildungsministerium SEP anerkannt.

Constitución Política de los Estados Unidos Mexicanos
Art. 3 fracción VI – los particulares podrán impartir educación en todos sus tipos y modalidades. En los terminos que establezca la ley, el Estado otorgará y retirará el reconocimiento de validez oficial a los estudios que se realizan en planteles particulares.
Ley General de Educación:
Artículo 54.- Los particulares podrán impartir educación en todos sus tipos y modalidades.
Die privaten Bildungseinrichtungen können Bildung in allen ihren Typen und Modalitäten durchführen.
Artículo 59.- Los particulares que presten servicios por los que se impartan estudios sin reconocimiento de validez oficial, deberán mencionarlo en su correspondiente documentación y publicidad.
Die privaten Bildungseinrichtungen, welche Dienstleistungen anbieten, für welche sie Studien ohne Anerkennung der offiziellen Gültigkeit durchführen, müssen dies in ihrer entsprechenden Dokumentation und Veröffentlichungen erwähnen.
Artículo 60.- Los estudios realizados dentro del sistema educativo nacional tendrán validez en toda la República.
Las instituciones del sistema educativo nacional expedirán certificados y otorgarán constancias, diplomas, títulos o grados académicos a las personas que hayan concluido estudios de conformidad con los requisitos establecidos en los planes y programas de estudio correspondientes. Dichos certificados, constancias, diplomas, títulos y grados tendrán validez en toda la República.
La Secretaría promoverá que los estudios con validez oficial en la República sean reconocidos en el extranjero.
Die Studien, die innerhalb des nationalen Bildungssystems realisiert wurden, haben in der ganzen Republik Gültigkeit.
Die Institutionen des nationalen Bildungssystems stellen Zeugnisse aus und verteilen Bestätigungen, Diplome, Titel oder akademische Grade an jene Personen, welche Studien abgeschlossen haben in Übereinstimmung mit den Anforderungen, die in den entsprechenden Studienplänen und Programmen festgelegt sind. Die besagten Zeugnisse, Bestätigungen, Diplome, Titel und Grade haben in der ganzen Republik Gültigkeit.
Das Ministerium hat zu fördern, dass die Studien mit offizieller Gültigkeit in der Republik im Ausland anerkannt werden sollen.
LEY PARA LA COORDINACIÓN DE LA EDUCACIÓN SUPERIOR
ARTÍCULO 3.- El tipo educativo superior es el que se imparte después del bachillerato o de su equivalente. Comprende la educación normal, la tecnológica y la universitaria e incluye carreras profesionales cortas y estudios encaminados a obtener los grados de licenciatura, maestría y doctorado, así como cursos de actualización y especialización.
